The goal of North Country Learning Center is to be a model program in providing educational and rehabilitation services to students experiencing difficulties in their local school systems.
Utilizing innovative educational practices and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, specialists and teachers work with students to help them learn the functional skills and self-regulation strategies necessary to become independent learners. Students are taught to face their challenges, develop their academic and personal strengths and lead productive and satisfying lives. We inspire social, emotional and intellectual growth in children with autism, brain injury and other developmental differences.
North Country Learning Center is devoted to the use of evidence-based cognitive behavioral strategies which emphasize instruction in the functional skills which replace unwanted behaviors. These functional skills include self monitoring, self regulation, social skills, conflict resolution, following instructions, and management skills for anger and anxiety. Positive Behavioral Support Plans are developed, data collection systems and criteria for success are established, and training is provided to everyone who interacts with the student at school and to parents for continuity in the home.
