- Course
Description:
- The purpose of
this 4 week course is to familiarize the participant with the recent
research based trends in the rehabilitation and education of young students
with special needs with particular attention for teaching language and
self management. Participants will become familiar with the basic concepts
of Applied Behavior Analysis including data collection, Functional Behavioral
Assessment and Positive Behavioral Support Plans. In addition participants
will obtain a useful conceptual framework and practical guide for teaching
children that will maximize the student’s developmental potential
and be consistent with the educational philosophy of the Westport Public
School Department and the federal regulations described in the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act.

- Course
Goals and Objectives:
- 1.
The participant will become knowledgeable in the basic concepts of Applied
Behavior Assessment.
2. The participant will be able to operationally define
a student's behavior, collect data, and perform a Functional Behavioral
Assessment.
3. Participants will be knowledgeable in posive techniques
used to increase desireable existing behaviors and develop new ones..
4. The participants will become knowledgeable in the
use of techniques used to decrease and eliminate unwanted behaviors
including methods to teach students self management skills.
