Course Description:
The purpose of this 5 week course is to familiarize the participant with the recent research based trends in the rehabilitation and education of young students with autism with particular techniques for teaching language and communication. In addition participants will obtain a useful conceptual framework and practical guide for teaching children with autism that will maximize the student’s developmental potential and be consistent with the educational philosophy of the Fall River School Department and the federal regulations described in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
 
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
     
Course Goals and Objectives:
1. The participant will become knowledgeable in the early symptoms of infants and toddlers diagnosed with autism..
2.The participant will be able to describe the history of the theories of causes of autism.
3.Participants will be knowledgeable in the elementary principals of learning psychology including data keeping techniques.
4.The participants will become knowledgeable in the use of positive behavioral interventions that have been scientifically documented to be effective that result in training language and socially significant and durable behavior change for students with autism.
